5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started My Network Marketing Business
May 27, 2022When I first joined Beachbody all those years ago I actually didn't know what I was signing up for. All I knew was that I loved the products and programs and it was a no-brainer for me to join.
It wasn't until I had actually joined that I learned that it was in fact a Network Marketing company.
Now as a little back story, my dad warned me for years that Network Marketing companies were a scam. And I believed him. But again... not knowing that Beachbody was indeed a Network Marketing company, I jumped in.
And as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss because had I taken my dads advice, I wouldn't have the life and financial freedom I have today.
And since we're on the topic of what we didn't know, I am sharing 5 things I wish i knew when I started my Network Marketing business.
1. It's not a scam / pyramid scheme
If I had a dollar for every time I heard this, I would probably be retired by now. Seriously. This is such a HUGE common misconception about network marketing. So let me explain:
Any random Google search that starts with "is network marketing..." will come out with pyramid scheme on the other end of it. But here's what it will show:
Pyramid Schemes are disguised as an MLM strategy. The difference between a pyramid scheme and a lawful MLM program is that there is no real product that is sold in a pyramid scheme. Participants attempt to make money solely by recruiting new participants into the program.
In short, pyramid schemes are illegal. Network Marketing is not a pyramid scheme. And it is most definitely not a scam.
2. It doesn't matter if people don't support you, you'll meet people who will
Let me tell you, when I was first starting out in my Network Marketing business, there were A LOT of people who didn't support me.
People laughed at me.
People talked behind my back.
People said mean things right to my face.
I've literally heard it all.
In the beginning, those words did bother me. But, I knew I couldn't let those people get under my skin. They didn't see what I saw, and that's ok.
But the good news? For every person who didn't support me, I met two new people who did. My circle changed. My people changed and my army of supporters grew wider than I even imagined.
3. That I'd grow into a leader
Being a leader is such a trivial thing. You can be a leader. And then you an BE a leader. As an Aveda Salon and Spa owner for years before making the shift into Network Marketing, I was the boss. I was the owner. I was in charge. But I truly didn't know what it meant to be a leader until I joined this company.
4. That it would help me create a multi 6 figure income
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to make this kind of income the day I joined this business. In fact, when I joined, I didn't join for the money at all.
I had a successful business already and was doing just fine. I just loved the products. But within the first month, after receiving my first pay check, something changed. I could see the potential. I could see what life could really look like if I put my head down and focused.
And so I did.
Three years later, I closed that thriving salon and spa that I so dearly loved and stopped trading my time for money. Now, I work on my terms and earn an income I could have only dreamed of.
5. That I would grow so much as a person
There is something to be said about the saying "you are who you surround yourself with".
There is something to be said about surrounding yourself with like minded women (and men).
There is something to be said about the magic that can happen when you do the above. And that is what Network Marketing has been for me. The person I was before I started this business is the shell of the person I am today. I have grown leaps and bounds. My confidence is higher, my mindset is stronger, I have a circle of people who just get me (a circle of people I probably never would have connected with before).
It's not just about the money. It's about the life I have created and the person I have become.
