5 Reasons To Follow Intermittent Fasting While Traveling

Mar 31, 2022

Earlier this year, I declared 2022 to be the year of travel. After being stuck at home for the past 2+ years, it feels so good to be travelling again... to see other places... to be WARM (if you know, you know).

If you have been around for any length of time, you know that I have been Intermittent Fasting for over 2 years. And one of the common questions I get is whether or not Intermittent Fasting still works while you're traveling. Or... is it still something I practice while I am on vacation.

The short answer is YES!

But keep reading to learn why!

First off it makes life so simple.

Travelling can be hectic and overwhelming... and when you just don’t have to think about food, bringing snacks, should I eat this or shouldn't I etc., vacations are a lot more enjoyable.

While you may be thinking... "but I’m on vacation, that’s not practical, I’ll be depriving myself", the good news is that intermittent fasting makes it easy to reap the benefits of fasting without depriving yourself at all.

Still not convinced?

Here are 5 reasons why I think Intermittent Fasting is incredible, especially on vacation.

1. Fasting creates a feeling of controlled freedom:

I have said this since I started. If you’re anything like me, I need some control over carte blanche vacation eating and I find when I’m on vacation, my brain says "do it, you’re on holidays!" So Intermittent Fasting and having some time limits on the hours when I’m eating is the best.

2. Fasting helps counteract the effects of overindulging on junk foods:

Vacation foods are heavy, high-sugar and often processed and those types of foods (as delicious as they are) is actually stressful for the body. But fasting can improve your ability to adapt to stress by changing the way certain cells and hormones work, meaning you’ll be able to better cope with the with sleep, exercise and dietary changes that often happen during a vacation.

3. Fasting can help prevent weight gain:

Let’s just call a spade a spade - if you eat in a smaller window of time, typically you’ll eat less calories. Skip breakfast at the patisserie a few days, and you can save yourself a LOT of calories!

4. Fasting helps prevent brain-fog and sluggishness:

Compared to both dieting and eating a highly processed, high-fat diet, Intermittent Fasting has been shown to actually improve energy levels as your body will use reserved fat stores for energy.

5. Fasting keeps you focused on what really matters (hint: it’s not the food!)

I used to be so fixated on food. Every thing I did revolved around food. Now don’t get me wrong I still love me some food… like really love it. But truthfully something changed when I started Intermittent Fasting. I actually started thinking and focusing on so many other things… more important things.

And that's that. Sounds pretty simple huh? It's because it really is. If you are heading away this Spring and want to avoid that added 10lbs for the week, try Intermittent Fasting. Enjoy all the foods you love, just in a smaller window.

Happy travelling!
